After winning the Tournament of Champions, James Clawale is faced with a new challenge: battling Brian Phoenix, the emperor of the Fire Kingdom. Due to his lack of training, James is initially defeated and loses two important things: someone dear to him and the kingdom. After the fierce battle, James disappears, leading everyone to believe he has been killed. With the help of Resse Fullbuster, Rockyus, and another character, James becomes much stronger.
